Every day in the media we are witnessing more people making failing attempts at fulfilling their lives. We call these lapses in judgment, 'mistakes'. Everyone makes mistakes; from the writer to the little kids down the street. As Christians we believe that God forgives these sins and takes them upon Himself when we admit that we have done wrong and ask for His forgiveness. But many of us seem to forget that ALL sins will be forgiven. It is very disturbing how much we enlarge the mistakes made by the celebrities of our world, but do nothing about it. We are called to go into all the world and preach the gospel and teach God's perfect love; so why aren't we reaching out to, for example, Jessica Simpson and Brittney Spears? Yes, these people have done a lot of wrong things, both of them letting themselves get hurt over and over, and for what? To feel fulfilled for a fleeting moment that is always followed by suffering! Passing through a grocery store or gas station without seeing the multiple magazines that declare the horrible lives of the people on their covers is IMPOSSIBLE!!! Every photo you see of those people is screaming the need for Jesus!
If we are called to reach out to all the world, why are we ignoring and shunning these people? Because of their mistakes? Because of their lifestyles? Because of the cliques and crowds they hang out with? Are those reasons not to reach out to these people? Even the most insignificant show of kindness, consideration, or maybe just asking "what's up?" could make a difference in someone's life.
No, I am not saying that we should ignore the starving children in Africa and Haiti and all over the world; I am only saying that instead of judging people like Vanessa Hudgens, Brittney Spears (just to name a few), we need to start reaching out to them. These people need Jesus just as much as the deprived children of the world, and they are deprived as well.
Bible References:
Luke 6:37-38 Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it wall be measured to you.
Luke 7:38-50 Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner."
Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell yo."
"Tell me, teacher,"he said.
"Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. now which of them will love him more?"
Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled."
"You have judged correctly," Jesus said.
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. you did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. There fore, I tell you, her m any sins have been forgiven-for she loved much. but he who has been forgiven little loves little."
Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
The other guests began to say among themselves, "Who is thsi who even forgives sings?"
Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
Luke 19:1-10 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
When Jesus reached teh spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
All the people saw this and began to mutter, "He has gone to be the guest of a 'sinner'"
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount."
Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

Good job in starting this. It has got me thinking. At the same time, the other side of the problem is too many people idolizing these celebrities and thinking that because they're cool then what they do is okay. They have great influence so they also have great responsibility. They do need to be shown love and be prayed for. But they also need to be brought down to earth level in the minds of young teens.
